Introduction
Kate is experienced in all aspects of criminal and family law and is regularly instructed by local solicitors, the CPS, the police and local authorities in a wide range of matters. Her criminal practice has recently included cases of murder, class A drug importation, serious sexual offences against children, armed robbery, historic sexual abuse, GBH with intent, arson with intent to endanger life and trademark offences.
In the area of family law, Kate accepts regular instructions in all aspects of public and private law proceedings. Her recent private law experience includes applications to remove children from the jurisdiction to countries outside of the Hague-Convention and applications for contact on behalf of a convicted paedophile following the making of a s.91 (14) order by the High Court. Kate regularly accepts instructions in care proceedings on behalf of parents, local authorities and guardians.
Kate is regularly instructed by police forces to deal with PII applications and issues of disclosure of confidential material into and out of care proceedings.
In addition, Kate accepts instructions in educational matters including school admission appeals and appeals against SEN statements.
Kate has advocacy experience in the Family Proceedings Court, County Court, High Court, Crown Court, Court of Appeal, Divisional Court, Coroner's Court and Courts Martial.

Recent and significant cases:
Re:P A recent application on behalf of Durham Constabulary to resist disclosure into care proceedings of material generated in the course of an investigation into the attempted murder of a baby. The matter was recently determined by the High Court following lengthy legal arguments about the competing interests of the two jurisdictions.
R -v - Hanif and Debnath. A recent trademarks trial on behalf of North Yorkshire Trading Standards resulting in the conviction of both defendants. The case involved a counterfeit clothing business operated by the defendants, allegations of conspiracy to defraud, complex restraint proceedings and high value proceeds of crime act applications.
