Sam sits regularly as the Assistant Deputy Coroner for Teesside and consequently has a wealth of experience in examining matters concerning personal injury and death. Aside from sitting, Sam also practises in Coroners' Courts both locally and nationally.
In addition, Sam undertakes work in the County Courts and the High Court, Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority tribunals and has undertaken Compensation Recovery Unit appeals and Mental Health tribunal work.
Aside from practising in industrial disease litigation, employers' liability and fatal accidents, Sam also undertakes general personal injury, sale and supply of goods, general contractual disputes and disputes concerning consumer credit legislation. Furthermore, Sam conducts cases involving injunctive relief and committal hearings.
Drafting and advising in all these areas is usually done within 21 days of receipt of instructions. Urgent sets of instructions will of course be turned around in a shorter period by mutual agreement.
Crime
A Grade 3 prosecutor, Sam undertakes both private and public prosecution and defence work. Sam’s private practice is primarily aimed at regulatory offences, fraud, trade marks, trade descriptions, and licensing matters.
Otherwise, Sam undertakes all aspects of criminal work in the crown court and regularly is involved in cases of violence, historic and contemporary sexual assaults, public order offences and dishonesty offences. Recently Sam was involved in representing a lead individual in one of Teesside’s largest crack cocaine conspiracies. As the Assistant Deputy Coroner for Teesside, Sam has a wealth of experience in examining experts. Sam has also lectured on aspects of the Criminal Justice Act 2003.
Work is also undertaken before associated venues such as the Courts Martial, prison tribunals and parole board panels.
Family
Sam has returned to family work involving finance. In addition Sam continues to undertake all injunctive relief work associated with harassment and violence and committals and brings to bear his experience gained not just in the county courts, but also the Crown Court.
